Lina Raafat is Deputy Research Director for CPOST’s militant propaganda project. Since joining CPOST in 2017, Lina has served as Head of the Arabic Analysis Team and led several projects investigating foreign fighter mobilization and martyrdom logics of militant groups like ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. She is a Master’s Candidate for the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago where her research focuses on rebel organization and the evolution of Salafi Jihadism. Prior to coming to CPOST she worked in Cairo with UNHCR on Refugee Status Determination and with the Center for Intercultural Dialogue and Translation on issues relating to political Islam in the Arab World. She expects to graduate in spring of 2019 with a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A in International Relations.
