Liya Khan is a graduate research associate and a Master’s candidate for the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago. Liya joined CPOST in winter of 2017 and has worked on multiple projects investigating logics of martyrdom and patterns of recruitment and mobilization for groups including ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra. She currently leads CPOST’s Afghan Taliban Propaganda Analysis Project. Liya’s personal research focuses on gender-based violence and civilian targeting by militant groups. She expects to graduate in spring of 2019 with a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A in International Relations.
